The Barnes said “I Do” in front of their family and friends on November 16, 2019 during their wedding at The Montgomery Event Venue in Excelsior Springs, Missouri.
These two met in college through a mutual friend. Emily had known of Jeremiah since she was a freshman, but they didn’t meet until her junior year, two weeks before he graduated. One fateful evening, they happen to be hanging out at the same college bar. She started chatting with one of his friends, but eventually they started their own conversation. After only a few minutes, her ride texted that they were almost there to pick her up. As she went outside to wait, he snuck up behind her, tapped on her shoulder, and asked for her number. They have been together ever since.
Last October, they went to Washington D.C. on vacation. On the second day, the morning weather brought rain and clouds. After their tour finished of the supreme court building, they planned to walk all the way to the Lincoln Memorial. Throughout the day, Jeremiah constantly took pictures and texted them to what she assumed was their families (which wasn’t unusual). When they finally got to the Washington Monument, he told her to stand in front of it,so he could take her picture (that was unusual). Finally, they made it to the Lincoln Memorial. As they stood at the reflecting pool, Jeremiah asked if Emily would use his phone to take a picture. She obliged. He said, “You like that picture?” She said, “Yea, I really do!” He said okay and went to find someone to take a picture of the two of them. A stranger took their picture and as Emily started to ask for the phone back from the strangers, Jeremiah pulled her back, gets down on one knee, and asks her to marry him. Everyone was overjoyed and speechless. Jeremiah and Emily hugged, kissed, and soaked in all of the wonderful emotions. As they embraced, he whispered in her ear and told her that the “strangers” who took their picture were actually friends of his from college who he hired to capture the engagement. These were the people he had been sending pictures to all day, documenting their day, and had them in place for the most perfect moment of Jeremiah and Emily’s lives.
