Portraits on Mass Street

If you’ve ever visited Lawrence, chances are you’ve made a stop on Massachusetts Street.  These downtown blocks hold some of the best locally-owned restaurants and shops in the Midwest. On a beautiful February afternoon, we collaborated with Kansas City model Chris Harris to take a series of portraits for his portfolio with Mass Street working as the backdrop.  Here are our favorite 5 photos that we snapped of Chris.

For this image, we asked Chris to flash a smile that would make his mom happy.  That got him laughing and a few snaps later, we ended up with this terrific portrait that shows off his amazing smile.  Chris is standing in front of a beautiful mural in a pedestrian passageway just off Mass Street.

Unfortunately the high overhead light blew out much of background when taking photos in the alleyway.  That’s okay.  We found some better angles that still allowed Chris to give us some nice poses.

The front of this beautiful building on 8th Street made for a nice backdrop.  With this building facade located just off of Mass Street, there are fewer people walking around, which helps when managing the background of these kinds of portraits.

As we were waiting to cross the street, the back light hit Chris in an interesting way.  Good thing I had my camera ready.

Lawrence has a vibrant arts scene. That makes for some terrific backgrounds when walking around downtown, looking for good backgrounds.  Here’s another gorgeous mural located in one of the pedestrian walkways located just off of Mass Street.
